Ceramic Care Guide

Caring for Your ORAORA HOME Ceramics

Each piece in our collection is handmade ceramic — shaped, glazed, and fired by hand. That process is what gives every item its character, and it also means a few things are worth knowing before your first wash.

Handmade Variation

Because our ceramics are made by hand rather than by machine, small differences in shape, glaze colour, texture, and finish are completely normal — and intentional. No two pieces are identical. Slight variations in tone, the depth of a glaze, or a small mark from the kiln are signs of a handmade piece, not defects.

Product-Specific Safety & Cleaning

Safety ratings (dishwasher-safe, microwave-safe, food-safe) vary by product and are confirmed on a product-by-product basis. Please always check your specific product's listing for its verified care instructions.

Note: The care ratings above apply specifically to the Cactus Measuring Set — Green and are based on verified product testing. Do not assume these ratings apply to other products in our range unless explicitly stated on the product page.

General Ceramic Care Tips

For any ceramic piece that does not carry a specific dishwasher-safe or microwave-safe rating, we recommend the following:

  • Hand wash with warm water and mild dish soap. Avoid abrasive scrubbers.
  • Avoid sudden temperature changes — don't move a ceramic piece directly from the freezer to a hot oven or vice versa, as thermal shock can cause cracking.
  • Microwave caution — unless the product listing confirms microwave-safe, avoid microwaving. Metallic glazes or metallic accents should never be microwaved.
  • Dishwasher caution — unless the product listing confirms dishwasher-safe, hand washing is recommended to preserve glaze quality and extend the life of your piece.
  • Decorative pieces — items listed as decorative (such as desk figures or tissue box covers) are not intended for food use.

A Note on Metallic Glazes

Some ceramics use glazes that contain metallic finishes. These pieces should never be used in the microwave, as metallic materials can cause arcing and damage both the piece and the appliance. Always check your product's listing if you are unsure whether a glaze contains metallic elements.
